Prof. Aravinda de Silva’s Visit

Prof. Aravinda de Silva, Associate Professor of Microbiology and Immunology, University of North Carolina, School of Medicine, visited NSF on 30 November 2012 to discuss a partnership project initiated at the Global Forum. NSF provided the opportunity for Prof. de Silva to have a discussion with a few local collaborators.

Global Forum has taken off

A landmark event in the history of Science and Technology in Sri Lanka

The National Science Foundation Sri Lanka (NSF) in collaboration with UNESCO and under the auspices of Ministry of Technology & Research organized a Global Forum of Sri Lankan Scientists on the theme “Empowering Sri Lanka through networking and knowledge sharing”, with a view to harnessing the knowledge of expatriate and local scientists for post-conflict socio-economic development of the country.

The Forum, which covered areas of national interest such as energy, health care, agriculture and information technology was attended by over 325 participants, comprising Sri Lankan expatriate and foreign scientists, local scientists, policy makers, administrators from public and private sector institutions, industrialists, entrepreneurs and businessmen.

Hon. Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Minister of Technology & Research and Hon. Prof. Tissa Vitarana, Senior Minister for Scientific Affairs, inaugurated the Forum. This was followed by three days of plenary, keynote addresses and breakout/panel discussion sessions. The Forum was enriched by keynote addresses and panel presentations from a number of outstanding Sri Lankan expatriate and foreign scientists who are engaged in cutting-edge research in fields such as Nanotechnology, Biotechnology, Advance Design and Manufacture, Natural Resources, Information and Communication Technology and Green Energy Technologies.
